Criteria & Process for Awarding Belts, Instructor Licenses, and Institute Certifications
Purpose
This document outlines the standards, eligibility criteria, and formal process for awarding student belt ranks, instructor licenses, and institutional certifications within the Qwan Ki Do Association, ensuring fairness, transparency, and alignment with national and international martial arts standards
Student Belt Awarding Criteria
A. Eligibility Requirements
Minimum Training Period: Students must complete the required number of classes and months between gradings.
Attendance: Minimum 80% class attendance in the grading cycle.
Discipline: Adherence to the Association’s code of conduct.
Technical Proficiency: Mastery of techniques listed in the belt syllabus.
B. Evaluation Parameters
Kihon (Basics) – Accuracy of stances, strikes, and blocks.
Kata/Forms – Precision, rhythm, and understanding of movements.
Kumite (Sparring) – Control, strategy, and application of techniques.
Self-Defense – Practical application in simulated scenarios.
Theory – Knowledge of Qwan Ki Do history, rules, and ethics.
C. Process
Recommendation – Instructor submits eligible student names to the Association.
Grading Examination – Conducted by certified examiners approved by the Association.
Result Declaration – Scores compiled and verified by the grading committee.
Awarding of Belts – Certificates and belts presented during official ceremonies
Instructor License Awarding Criteria
A. Eligibility Requirements
Must be a 1st Dan Black Belt or higher with valid national registration.
Minimum 2 years of active teaching experience for new license applications.
Completion of Instructor Training Program organized by the Association.
B. Evaluation Parameters
Technical Expertise – Ability to demonstrate and explain techniques clearly.
Teaching Skills – Effective class management and student development.
Ethics & Leadership – Role model behavior and adherence to association guidelines.
C. Process
Application Submission – Candidate submits license application form with required documents.
Assessment – Practical and theoretical evaluation by senior examiners.
Approval – Governing body reviews assessment results.
License Issuance – Official Instructor License with validity period (3 years).
Institute Certification Awarding Criteria
A. Eligibility Requirements
The institute must be led by a licensed instructor recognized by the Association.
Training facilities must meet minimum safety and equipment standards.
Must follow the Association’s approved syllabus and grading system.
B. Process
Application – Institute submits affiliation and certification request.
Inspection – Association officials visit to inspect facilities, safety measures, and syllabus compliance.
Approval – Governing body reviews inspection report.
Certification – Official certificate issued with a validity of 1 year (renewable).
Renewal & Revocation
All licenses and certifications must be renewed before expiry.
Failure to comply with Association standards may result in suspension or cancellation.
Record Keeping
All awarded belts, licenses, and certifications are recorded in the Association’s central database for verification.
